No trace output with Flash Debug Player 9.0r28

Downloaded the Flash Player 9 r28 Debug version today and found that i no longer get any trace() output to my log file. :(

Had to revert to Player 8 Debug as the only 9 version on the Adobe site is r28. (Previous 9 Debug version was working, but I over-wrote my older 9 debug install with the new one -- same filenames, ya know)

I don't see any information in TechNotes or anything on the site, but if someone has any info, please post.

I tested this with both the ActiveX version and the Netscape version. Still no Intel Mac 9r28 Debug, so no test there.

[UPDATE] - Matt informed us that it was probably a change in flashlog.txt file location due to Vista changes, it is was. The trace output DOES exist. Now we just need to hear if the location will still be configurable via mm.cfg or if there's a new way to change the file's location. See comments for a little more info.

[UPDATE 2] - It has been confirmed that the log files do still work on OSX as well, but are in a new location (see comments for more). The only thing still "up in the air" is official word if mm.cfg has been discontinued, or if there are new ways to set preferences.

Hi, the location of flashlog.txt might have changed in this release in order to support Vista. Check your C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\Logs folder and see if it's there?

hey matt

Interesting. Looking in that folder i DO find a log file. Great.

BUT - what happened to using mm.cfg for determining where the log file should be stored? It used to be able to go wherever you wanted it... Is this a Vista user security thing? Or is there a new way to change this?

Thanks
g.

What about the Mac? I've also noticed that this isn't working anymore, even when following the directions from "Building and Deploying Flex 2 Applications" in the Flex 2 docs.

I am on OS X (PPC still) and the flashlog.txt file does still exist.
To enable *live tracing* via Terminal, paste these 2 lines into Terminal (change your Username brforehand then press return after each)
Line 1:
alias trace=tail\ -f\ "/Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player/Logs/flashlog.txt"

Line 2:
alias cleartrace=rm\ -f\ "/Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player/Logs/flashlog.txt"

Then to watch live tracing from your browser open Terminal and type trace

I hope this helps.

Anyone know where to find the intel/mac debug player binary? Version I d'loaded says for ppc only, and I can't seem to trace (pun unintended) anything on the adobe site

Thanks

Indeed, why is it Macromedia still?

You could ask the same regarding Flex...

should it not AXML rather than MXML ?

And since Macromedias line of MX products died too...shouldn't we be starting our tags with

Rummaging through their support site, it seems Adobe maintains a handy archive of Flash players here:

So I guess Flash Tracer isn't working at this time then.

Yes, the FlashTracer works with the 9,0,28 player version too. But you have to use that new log location because now you cannot change the log location anymore.

On Vista the fashlog.txt is under
C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\Logs
